Damien Hirst
Away From the Flock 1994
Mixed Media
This Sculpture is an early key piece from the celebrated natural History series initiated by Hirst in 1991. The Lamb is preserved in formaldehyde solution so that it appears to be mid leap. The selection of the humble lamb evokes its dual status as common cattle and symbol for christ within western art history.
